Answers to Fun Stuff P.73.

1. CALCULATE STUFF.
There are two possible answers, depending upon your interpretation of the word “treble” which will determine the total number of pebbles.
Either Option A: you believe treble is 3 times more than the initial pebble (ie. 1 + 2 + 3 = 9),
Or Option B: you believe treble is 3 times the number of pebbles accumulated so far (ie. 1 + 2 + 9 = 12).
Add to these the pebble that Iona collects at the end of the story and the pebbles total either 7 or 13. Add to these 20 (Chesterfields) +1 (Stoat) +3 (Deckchairs) + 5 (Birds) + 3 (Age) to give a subtotal of either 39 (Option A) or 45 (Option B) which, when divided by 3 (Owls), give a final total of either 13 or 15.

3. VALUE OF STUFF
If 2 Frames have the same value as 1 Chair, then 2 Chairs have the same value as 4 Frames. The Chaise Longue therefore has a value of 3 Frames. Dividing 3 by 1 gives a final total of 3. The answer is therefore 3.
